The 28th Meeting with the Local Population dealt with the popular topic of creating added value in the process of developing recognizable local products.
From raw material to product – increasing added value is a new topic that Dr. Toni Tešija from the Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb will present on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 2 to 4 pm in the conference hall of the Krka Eco Campus at Puljane.
The cycle of Dr. Tešija's educational lecture series continues with a look at the difference between selling raw materials and creating products with a higher market value. He will focus on products related to specific breeds and regions, and the possibilities of processing raw materials on the farm, i.e. the advantages of a short sales chain and tourist product placement.
The focus will also be on the differences between local products and products with quality labels, on the role of producing organizations and other stakeholders in product protection procedures, and on the cost structure and the most common hidden losses. Using examples of successful models from Croatia and abroad, Dr. Tešija will illustrate how livestock production can be connected to the tourist offerings.
This very current topic is often of interest to the general public, and presenting it in a popular way will contribute to a better understanding of the importance of preserving traditional breeds. Namely, research has shown a strong connection between grazing and biodiversity, and one of the keys to success on this path is education. Thanks to the Meetings with Local People, residents of the wider Krka River area can expand their knowledge and improve their skills related to creating value-added products.
