On Saturday, 28 February 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m., the educational cycle for beekeepers from the broader Krka River area will continue in the conference hall of the Krka Eco Campus in Puljane
The topic of the Meeting is "Beekeeping Technology throughout the Year, with an Emphasis on Spring Development, Swarming, Pollen Collection, Queen Bee Breeding, and Battling Varroa", and will be presented by Miroslav Antolčić, the owner of a family farm in Velika Gorica, who comes from a family of great bee lovers, who have nurtured the tradition of beekeeping uninterruptedly since 1935. As an active member of three beekeeping associations – the Turopolje Beekeeping Association, the Croatian Apitherapy Society, and the Croatian Association of Breeders of Selected Queen Bees – with many years of beekeeping experience, Antolčić is particularly dedicated to the promotion of beekeeping, bee products, and techniques for preserving healthy and strong communities.
The end of winter dormancy in hives means for beekeepers an intensification of work for beekeepers in the apiary with preparation for spring development and the first foraging of bees. When increasing the number of bee colonies, it is important to know how to properly and safely conduct their swarming without weakening the primary colony, and how to protect bee colonies from their most common parasite, the varroa mite. Varroa mites are often mentioned as the world's greatest problem in beekeeping, which can have a direct negative impact on the entire bee community. The breeding of selected queen bees is also crucial for the survival of the community, which Antolčić will focus on in particular.
The twenty-fifth Meeting with Local Inhabitants will, like previous meetings, bring together residents from the broader Krka River area, and participation is free.
