Monitoring the state of cave fauna at speleological structures in the broader area of the Krka NP
26/06/2026
During 2025, the Croatian Biospeleological Society, in cooperation with the Krka National Park, conducted monitoring of the condition of cave fauna and speleological structures in the Park area.
The investigations included eight speleological structures: Sedrena špilja [Tufa Cave] behind the mill, Miljacka II, the Miljacka I-V cave system, the cave by the mill at Miljacka (Miljacka IV), Jazinka Cave, Stara Jametina Cave, Oziđana Pećina Cave and Jama Cave opposite Torak. The aim of the research was to conduct monitoring of the situation using methodology established in previous research (Miculinić et al. 2016), and to compare data about the condition of cave fauna and speleological structures with data from the last investigations conducted from 2014-2016. The collected data, their analysis, and the comparison with data from previous research show that the cave fauna and habitat conditions in the investigated speleological structures are in good condition. Given the richness of the sensitive aquatic cave fauna and the endemic terrestrial cave fauna, it is extremely important that the Park continues to properly manage this natural heritage. Continuous monitoring of its condition is recommended, in order to be able to react in time to any negative changes.
